Last night I went to a gig by one of my favorite bands, Black Rebel Motorcycle Club. Great time hanging with friends and neighbors and enjoying the new Baby 81 songs. Here’s a movie from: a) pictures I took with my BlackBerry, and b) music sent to myself as a MMS voicenote. All mastered together in iPhoto :-). Enjoy.
Dallen and I went to a concert together. Crazy time. Dallen took a ride on top of hands to the front of the gig where he was pitched out. Glad he came and found us.
I didn’t really find the show as good as I expected. But luckily I have my BlackBerry everywhere with me so I was able to get some good email time in about halfway through the set.
I liked the opening band Mute Math. The Cinematics were good too. Wolfmother was a letdown.
This is my second story from TaylorMade Golf. I was able to meet and interview Benoit Vincent, the Chief Technology Officer at TaylorMade. He is the man who manages the engineering team. This video shows cutout head of the new TaylorMade SuperQuad and Burner drivers. You can see the system to manage weight distribution. Vincent talks about use of aerospace engineering and casting to create modern clubs. Pretty cool stuff considering the metal wood was introduced by Gary Adams of TaylorMade at the PGA Merchandise Show in January 1979, just 18 years ago.
Brad and I had been casually asking each other, for several weeks, where our family should go for Spring Break. On the way home from our date late Saturday, April 14 we spontaneously decided to go to San Francisco. We asked Dallen’s opinion when we arrived home and, after almost having to talk him into it (only after we suggested that we would fly), booked the flights and the hotel early Sunday, April 15, while the other kids slept. On Wednesday, April 18 we started on our adventure.

I just finished producing my podcast interview with Sean Toulon. Sean is the EVP, Product & Brand Creation at TaylorMade. Talk about a cool marketing job. Working with tour players like Sergio Garcia, Retief Goosen, Darren Clark, John Daly, Paula Creamer, and on and on. Working with an engineering team that pushes the limits of aerospace materials and design strategies to create 460cc marvels of art and function. As Sean said, “golfers are a pretty passionate group.”
I learned that Sean was the guy behind the product, business, and marketing plans to create and launch the R7 driver. As he said in the podcast, he arrived at a European tour event on a Monday night with drivers in hand for testing. By the end of the next day, 32 tour players changed to the R7. Many of these players broke contracts to play the R7 because it worked.
He also talks about the “triangle of influence,” the strategy that was created by Gary Adams, the creator of the first metal wood. He also told me, “there’s 25-30 more yards [distance] that we [TaylorMade] know about today.”
