Oh, Holy Night is Sis’s Pointe number for her dance recital: “What Christmas Means to Me.” She has progressed nicely over the past few years on Pointe.
This was a cute Lyrical number from Sis’s Christmas dance recital. It was the final number for the recital and led into the finale. “City of Silver Dreams.”
This was Sis’s Turns dance number for her dance studio’s Christmas dance recital: “What Christmas Means to Me.” It’s a very cute dance number. One of my favorites.
Sis and her junior high Concert Singers would like to wish you a Merry Christmas.
Enjoy our trip to the “suburbs” in Stanley, Idaho for the Baldwin Family 2011 Reunion. The sped up video, lens flare, and stills all convey my memories of this event. Enjoy.
Sis and her friends have a serious obsession with the 1980′s. I don’t know where or how it’s fueled, but it is there. Last night they attended a Halloween dance and all dressed up in 1980′s attire. When they walked through the room, Dad and I both exclaimed “That’s not the 80′s!” To be fair, I was 15 to 25 years-old in the decade of the 1980′s. I was in high school and college through the first half of the decade. I think I have a pretty good idea of what 1980′s fashion entails.
When I think of the 1980′s I visualize the fashions below: Lots of beads and bangles, shirts and sweatshirts off one shoulder with a tank underneath, bright neon colors, big hair, thick headbands (fabric or bandanas), whitewash jeans, thick leg warmers, shoulder pads, thick belts hanging on the hips. Examples: Madonna, Flashdance, Let’s Get Physical Olivia.
Below is Sis and her friend’s attempt at 1980′s fashion. The first photo is from last night. The second photo is an attempt last year, which I think is closer than last night’s attempt.
I mean, really, whose idea was the tight shorts? We didn’t wear tight, short spandex shorts over tights. And the headbands? Those are elastic, not fabric. And they’re thin, not thick. The sweatshirts are not belted, and they are not cut up and hanging off one shoulder. And knee-high socks are not leg warmers. And where is the big hair? They all have the Marsha Brady hair that is so popular with girls today. We were so past Marsha. Sis doesn’t even use product in her hair. Then she wonders why her curls fall out so quickly. Sigh. I guess I need to give some lessons.
Below is Sis dressed up for a 1980′s party back in 2005. Now that’s more like it. But I believe it’s because Mom was the fashion consultant, not Sis’ 15 year-old, born in 1996-97, friends.
Sis was chosen to be the female emcee for the Fall Choir Concert at her junior high. Wanting to make a statement, Sis wore a pink feather Boa and provided a fedora for her cohort, Jackson. I added their trivia and dialogue before the Concert Singer numbers, which Sis and Jackson are members of. Sis and Jackson came up with the dialogue and the trivia questions themselves. Sis is definitely not her mother. I never would have done something like this in junior high. Sis will probably have a much more colorful life than I ever will.
Sis performed this number with her Junior High SSA Choir. It’s her new favorite song.
Sis and her friend choreographed this little number for her Junior High’s Dance Concert. Isn’t it cute? She has some sort of fascination with the 80′s.
Sis participated, along with Little Sis, in their dance studio’s performance of Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. Sis was in other dances that were of the Charlie theme, but the studio director liked a certain song and wanted a dance choreographed to it to start the show.
So it was up to the Jazz teacher to choreograph this little number. Sis does not like this dance, however, because she says that it is an 80′s dance. All of the moves are 80′s moves. Her teacher is from the 80′s. Apparently all of the dancers moaned and groaned throughout rehearsals while learning it. I, on the other hand, think that it is a cute dance. But I guess I would since the 80′s were my decade. I was 15-25 years old in the 1980′s. I drip with the 80′s. And I’m proud of it.
This dance–from the Charlie and the Chocolate Factory performance–is the one that Sis wanted posted: The Oompa Loompas. It is a fun modern dance. The costumes are freaky. The three-year-olds cried. The video is actually made up of two Oompa Loompa dances that were at different times in the performance. I put the best footage together. It’s not easy filming a dance that goes from okay light to no light to black light back to okay light.
Sis performed in her dance studio’s ballet showcase. It was called Masquerade and was very cute. Sis was a Gypsy.
Sis celebrated her 13th birthday with a big party. She chocked it full of activities: cake and ice cream, a pinata, swimming, s’mores, gift opening, charades; plus all the little activities in-between. It was a long party, and as a result, the movie is looong. But all the gals had a blast…from what I can tell. I’m sure everyone slept well that night.

Sis was in her first dance recital since changing dance studios last Fall. She takes ballet and jazz 4 1/2 hours per week and has progressed nicely. The footage was taken at the dance rehearsal earlier in the day, however, because the dance concert was three hours long, and the DVD was $37. Call me cheap, but I wasn’t going to buy the DVD. My daughter was in two dances. I really don’t care about the dozens of others.
I’m trying to not be a grump, but I am really getting tired of businesses who cater to kid’s activities that make insane demands on their students and players, which affects the families. I really want to simplify our family life, but it’s difficult when everyone thinks that their studio, or their dojo, or their team takes precedence and should be top priority. It’s time for the cycle to turn. Parents need to stop allowing others to tell them how to control their families’ lives. Just a grumpy thought.
It can be unsettling for a 12-year-old to declare her love for another 12-year-old in public. Luckily, it’s only pretend.

Sis has always been a good little rock climber. From the first time she tried it, she has been a natural. I don’t know that I would want her to take up the real thing, but it shows her coordination and her strength. She’s a good athlete.

Compliments of our resident hairdresser, Sis, shown below with her sassy friend, Sabina.

At the request of Sis, enjoy the picture above…

I came across this photo as I was editing photos for a movie I am making for our Primary. I thought that it was a pretty good indication of Sis’s personality. She’s going to kill me when she sees that I chose this one over the other one with the “normal” pose. Funny.
