Has there ever been a song that has captured a particular time of your life? A song that brings a specific memory to your mind every time you listen to it? Uncle Albert/Admiral Halsey by Paul McCartney and Wings does just that to me. Whenever I hear the song, a certain calm settles over me and an image of my Mom and Dad’s room on a winter’s day comes to my mind. The song came out in August 1971, so I was six-years-old at the time. I picture their bedroom with blue carpet and blue floral sheer drapes. I believe it was winter because the colors in my mind are blue and white. But the song reminds me of those innocent, care-free days of my childhood. I really miss those days.

  1. I would definately have to say that 1979 (Smashing Pumpkins), The Suburbs (Arcade Fire), Here In Your Arms (Hellogoodbye), and Always (Blink-182) do that to me. They take me back to the early days of Cedar Hills, 9th Grade, and Senior Year (the best times in my life so far), back when the only agenda was hanging out with the friends, crushing on that cute girl who was so out of my league, snowboarding with all the kids, and wandering in the hills behind the house.

I know I can’t really reply to this post as I am only 18.5, but nostalgia still hits us with the songs of our lives. I can’t say how many times I’ve cried a little inside when that first measure of The Suburbs comes on, or when I hear the chorus of Here In Your Arms.
