Jerusalem | Walk to the Orson Hyde Memorial Park

The Orson Hyde Memorial Park is a hop, skip and jump away from the BYU Jerusalem Center. Both places are located on the Mt. of Olives. The back route to the park is across and up the (very busy) street from the bottom entrance of the Center, through a neighborhood–where young boys were playing and trying to not run us over on their scooters–and then down the hill to the back entrance. It’s a much shorter walk than what Google Maps tells you. And you don’t walk along the busy streets, which can be dangerous with cars barreling down the hill at high speeds. As a BYU student here many moons ago, this is the way we walked to the park, and this is the route our tour took in 2018. When we were walking back to the Center, a bus of tourists had parked at the entrance of the neighborhood and the group was making their way to the park. As you can see from the photos at the end, the amphitheater is a nice spot for a group (or individuals) to sit and discuss the life of Jesus Christ as they gaze down on the beautiful city of Jerusalem.
