I attended the 50th Anniversary of Oakcrest LDS Girl’s Camp, where I was a counselor during the summer of 1984. Our staff actually had a 20 year reunion four years ago, but I failed to take any pictures of the camp while there. I was too tired. I was nine months pregnant with Little Sis.

I thought that it would be fun to take Little Sis with me on Friday. She had fun, although we stayed in the lodge far too long. We should have walked around the camp more and taken more pictures. She enjoyed the singing, and she flirted with my counselor friends. She enjoyed all of the attention.

I can’t believe that it has been 24 years since I was a counselor there (It’s been 30 years since I was a camper). I feel so old, especially when the current counselors would ask you what year you were there and then gasp when you told them. The majority weren’t even born yet.

Ah, but what a fun summer. My Dad got mad when I told him how much I made after working five days a week, 24 hours a day for three months. I tried to help him understand that it was not for the money, it was for the experience. But he wouldn’t hear it. It was a fun summer. There haven’t been any more like it since.

  1. I LOVE the slide show Yama! It left me wanting much more though! Good job! We were naughty, weren’t we? No wonder I wasn’t hired back, but then how come Gator, Chipper, and Pebbles were? They were just as naughty. 😉

  2. Yes, that is a good question. How come some naughty’s were hired back, but other naughty’s were not?

Shadow’s Creep actually borrows it’s music from New World Symphony by Antonín Dvořák. Every time I hear the music, I think of Oakcrest: holding hands in a circle and swaying back and forth while singing the song. Is that what we did? Something pagan like that :-).

As far as pictures, I just didn’t take that many. That was before I became a Jill Photo. It would have been different if it were today. There would have been lots of video too!

  3. Looks like a fun memory…the hairdos for me were nostalgic! You look like you were quite the adventurous gal.
